DONATIONS IN JANUARY

The Yayasan ushered in the New Year 2011 with donations totalling RM25,000.00 to two worthy causes, namely the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) [BCLAC (KL)] and Persatuan KIOKU [Interaction Disabled People Association Kuala Lumpur & Selangor].

The BCLAC (KL) is a voluntary organisation set up by the Bar Council Malaysia to provide legal aid, advice and legal representation to those persons unable to afford such services. According to BCLAC (KL) Chairman, Mr. Ravinder Singh Dhalliwal, up to 19,000 financially disadvantaged people each year receive assistance from the BCLAC (KL) to deal with their legal problems.

Due to the ever-increasing demand for the organisation’s services, new computers with licensed software needed to be purchased. The Yayasan was pleased to make a donation of RM10,000.00 for the said purchase and hopes that its modest donation will go some way towards contributing to the continued efficiency of the services provided by the BCLAC (KL).

A donation of RM15,000.00 was also made to Persatuan KIOKU to assist its needy members who had lost their source of income because of their disability and required some form of financial assistance to rebuild their lives. Set up in 1999 by Mr. Chris S. Kali Thasan, Persatuan KIOKU is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-political, voluntary organisation involved in bringing awareness to the general public of the abilities and capabilities of the physically challenged,  thereby allowing them to be re-employed into society. The association, whose current Chairman is Mr. Lim Kok Sing, also organises motivational camps for the physically challenged to encourage  them on how best to deal with their disability and to be self-reliant so they may gain confidence to re-enter the workforce.

Yayasan Tun Abdul Hamid acknowledges with appreciation the assistance of Mr. Balvinder Singh Kenth in giving the Yayasan the opportunity to contribute to the furtherment of the above voluntary organisations.
