FRIENDS DONATE TO FURNISH KINDY

September 20th 2013 — Friends Of The Yayasan (FOTY) passed the hat round for donations to buy furniture and learning materials for the newly established Fugee Kindergarten in Gombak, Selangor.

Led by Yayasan friend, Serena Azizuddin, the furniture and materials were presented to Fugee School Co-Founder, Ms Deborah Henry. The finalists of Malaysian adventure reality show, KAMPUNG QUEST, Wei-sheng and Cheryl were also present to help transport and assemble the furniture as part of the charity segment of the exciting seven episode series which may be viewed on the web at www.kampungquest.com.

Kampung Quest, as the name suggests, has 10 Malaysian urbanites taken out of their cosy ambience of city life with its modern conveniences and techno gadgets, and placed in a rural setting where even necessities normally taken for granted, like shampoo, for instance, become a reward to be “earned”.

As an indirect analogy, going to school is automatically assumed to be the right of every Malaysian child upon reaching the age of four. But for refugee children who are in the category of being stateless, it is a privilege made possible by the efforts of compassionate minded individuals like Deborah, who together with Ms Shikeen Halibullah set up the Fugee School in 2008.
