MAJLIS BUKA PUASA WITH FUGEE SCHOOL
Fugee School Principal, Mr. Shafie fondly describes the Majlis Buka Puasa hosted by Friends of Yayasan Tun Abdul Hamid on 5 August 2012 as a “historical” occasion.
This is because Khan Baba restaurant in Gombak where the Buka Puasa was held, is just a stone’s throw away from Fugee School and along the route the pupils go by very often. ” So now, whenever we pass by that way, we can say, ‘That’s the restaurant we had iftar (buka puasa) with our friends from Yayasan Tun Abdul Hamid,'” Mr. Shafie said smilingly.

It was a truly joyous outing for the 40 pupils and their teachers and a handful of Friends of the Yayasan, led by YTAH member, Cik Aza Izati binti Abdul Aziz. Also present was Fugee School Co-Founder, Ms Deborah Henry. The restaurant sparkled with the laughter and excited chatter of the children and there was plenty to eat for everyone.

Gifts of duit raya and sweets were given to each pupil and then it was time to adjourn to the mosque nearby for terawih prayers.
Fugee School provides a basic education to over 100 refugee children from the age of 4 upwards who would otherwise have no access to any formal education. The children are taught core subjects such as English, Maths, Science & Computing Skills and their native Somali language. There are also additional classes in Sustainable Development and Business Management for the young adults. The school relies very much on donations to keep going.
