18th CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION QUALIFYING BOARD, MALAYSIA, CLP EXAMINATIONS
The Legal Profession Qualifying Board, Malaysia (Lembaga Kelayakan Profesion Undang-Undang, Malaysia) held its 18th Convocation ceremony for the Certificate of Legal Practice Examinations 2012 (Peperiksaan Sijil Amalan Guaman 2012) on 13th March 2013 at Pusat Dagangan Dunia Putra, Kuala Lumpur.
Present as Guest of Honour for the auspicious ceremony was DYMM Pemangku Raja Perak Darul Ridzuan Raja Nazrin Shah ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah.
Also present were the members of the Legal Profession Qualifying Board, Malaysia, led by their Chairman, who is also the Attorney-General of Malaysia, Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.
This year marks 30 years since the Certificate of Legal Practice Examinations was initiated and close to 10,000 candidates have successfully obtained the much coveted Certificate necessary for them to enter the legal profession.
In his speech to the graduands and their proud parents at the Convocation ceremony, Tan Sri Gani quoted the eminent 18th century English essayist and lexicographer, Dr. Samuel Johnson,
“As rarely happens that a man is fit to plead his own cause. Lawyers are a class of the community, who, by study and experience, have acquired the art and power of arranging evidence, and of applying to the points at issue what the law has settled. A lawyer is to do for his client all that his client might fairly do for himself, if he could.”
This year there were 860 candidates who sat for the examinations, out of whom, only 350 were able to pass: 11 with second class upper honours, 101 with second class lower honours and 238 with third class honours. There was no first class honours candidate.
